The purpose of the Featured Member pages (click on the photo on the upper left of this page to see an example) is to celebrate the success of SOCAN members by presenting an excerpt of their music, and some biographical information, on the SOCAN Website.
Criteria for becoming a Featured Member
Any SOCAN member who wishes to be considered as a candidate for the Featured Member pages is advised that the SOCAN Website Editor seeks to achieve a balance, throughout the year, of the following criteria when determining which members are featured on the site:
- Balance of music genres (jazz, folk, rock, urban, blues, classical, etc.)
- Geographical balance
- Gender balance
- Cultural balance
- Balance of members' career arcs (newcomers, established songwriters/composers, veterans)
The editor also takes into account:
- the member's career profile
- the member's relevance to SOCAN activities (such as workshops, SOCAN awards, etc.)
- the timeliness of the candidacy, in relation to a member's new release or other current/newsworthy activity
To be considered as a candidate, please e-mail the Website Editor, including:
an MP3 or RealAudio sound file, or files;
a short biography, preferably as an MS Word file; and
a Jpeg, preferably 72 dpi and no more than 400 pixels wide
