SOCAN, the Society of Composers,
Authors and Music Publishers of Canada, is a performing rights organization
(PRO) run by Canadian composers, lyricists, songwriters and music
publishers. We license the public performance and telecommunication
to the public of the worlds repertoire of copyright-protected
musical works in Canada and distribute the royalties to our members
and to affiliated international PROs. Joining SOCAN allows you to
be compensated for public performances of your music both here in
Canada and abroad. We’ve been around since 1925.

SOCAN does not deduct any amounts
from incoming international royalties, unlike some PROs in other countries.
And we can pay your royalties in U.S. currency.

One of the benefits of membership is a free subscription to Words & Music magazine. Members who are earning royalties through SOCAN continue to receive the magazine free; non-earning members can buy an annual subscription for $20 (CDN) inside Canada, $25 (CDN) U.S. and foreign. Members enjoy a free subscription for the first two years of membership. After that time, members who are earning royalties through SOCAN continue to receive the magazine for free. Anyone else pays the above subscription fees.
Words & Music is published four times a year and contains all the news, events, profiles and issues that are important to you. You can find selected articles online
or subscribe
for delivery of the print version to your home.

Other benefits of joining SOCAN
include info sessions and discounts on publications and conference
registrations. Check our events
calendar for upcoming seminars, conferences and more, and our Member Benefits page for a list of current benefits
