SOCAN's third ECHO Songwriting Prize

Voting is now completed for the third annual ECHO Songwriting Prize, designed to identify what's next and what's best in current Canadian independent music. This prize will honour some of the most innovative and artistic songs created in the past year by emerging songwriters in Canada. The writer(s) of the winning song will receive a $5,000 CDN cash prize.
The five nominated Canadian songs, as selected through a rigorous process by an independent panel of ten music community tastemakers, are:
• “Lucklucky,” written by Veda Hille, performed by Veda Hille
• “Night Windows,” written by Stephen Carroll, John Samson, Greg Smith, and Jason Tait, performed by The Weakerthans
• “Weighty Ghost,” written by Loel Campbell, Tim D'eon, Paul Murphy, and Jud Haynes, performed by Wintersleep
• “Double Suicide,” written by Sandro Perri, performed by Sandro Perri
• “You are Never Alone,” written by Josh Dolgin, Doris Glaspie, Katie Moore, and Waleed Shabazz, Performed by Socalled
Voting is now closed, but SOCAN invites you to listen to all five songs. Voting for The Prix de la chanson ÉCHO, celebrating the songwriting talents of some of the best independent, up-and-coming Francophone songwriters in Canada, was completed concurrently.
