Major music industry panels to be held as part of M for Montréal

Two educational panel discussions on the role of music supervisors (with prestigious guests from Hollywood and New York City) and the state of the French live-show industry will be held Nov. 20-22, 2008, as part of the third annual edition of the "export and network" showcasing platform, M for Montreal.

The first panel, "The Work of Music Supervisors," will be held Thursday, Nov. 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Godin Room of the Opus Montreal Hotel. It will deal with how to go about placing songs in commercials, films, TV series and more, and will bring together five top Los Angeles and New York music supervisors, who can boast experience with major advertising campaigns (Apple, Coke, Nike), films and trailers (Spider-Man 3, Sex and the City), TV programs (Ugly Betty) and video games (Guitar Hero, Spider-Man, Tony Hawk). The session will present an insider’s view of the work of a music supervisor, describe the attributes of that role and share tips on how to get your music listened to and used in an AV production. The panel will be held in English and moderated by Julie Blake, a co-founder of Third Side Music in Montreal.

The second panel, "The State of the French Live Show Industry," will be held in the same place on the same day from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. It will be moderated by Jean-Robert Bisaillon, who is a consultant for the strategic intelligence, training and cultural management company YouYou.ca. It will deal with the current situation of the French industry in light of recent government support cuts to companies, ensembles, structures and a number of venues. Five French panellists will participate in the event. They will address the issue of the losses suffered by live concert venues as a result of the Internet, and discuss what can be done should this trend affect the industry’s ability to welcome foreign artists, as well as the expectations of festivals, concert venues and tour organizers.

Tickets for each of these panel discussions can be purchased at $30 on Admission.
