Two of SOCAN’s top executives have taken on new roles, effective March 1, 2008. Jeff King, former vice-president Membership, has assumed the head-office post of vice-president Licensing.

And France Lafleur, former vice-president Licensing, has been appointed vice-president Membership and Communications & Marketing, also continuing as general manager of the Quebec and Atlantic division.

France Lafleur completed her law degree at the Université de Sherbrooke in 1980 and joined CAPAC (a predecessor of SOCAN) that same year. In 1985, she was named director of CAPAC’s Montreal office. In 1990, with the merger of CAPAC and PROCAN to form SOCAN, she was appointed director of the Quebec Division, and in 2000, assumed responsibility for the Quebec & Atlantic Division and was appointed vice-president Licensing. She serves on the board of the Canadian Music Centre’s Quebec office as treasurer.

Jeff King joined SOCAN in 2001 as manager of administrative support in the Distribution Operations department and was promoted to director Distribution Operations in 2002. In 2003, SOCAN’s newly created Information Centre and Membership department was combined with Distribution Operations to form Member Operations. King served as director Member Operations until his appointment to vice-president Member Operations in 2004. In 2007, SOCAN integrated its Member Services and Member Relations departments into one Membership Department under King’s leadership. Prior to joining SOCAN, King served for several years as a vice-president with senior operational responsibilities at a major specialty-insurance company. His new mandate includes SOCAN’s Business Development, Customer Service and Concert activities under the Licensing umbrella.
